Over the past few years, a new activity has sprung up around the country. Trivia, puzzle and riddle lovers are all excited about being trapped in a room. Escape the Room, and the different versions of it, involve solving puzzles to get out of a room in a certain amount of time. Depending on the company, your challenges can range from simple yet puzzling, to mind boggling and impossible. Escape Artist DC doesn’t just hand you some riddles to solve, you play an active part in the Sherlock Holmes style mystery night. You’ll solve puzzles in each room in order to determine the ending of the story, all within 45 minutes. This would be a fun date night for the couple who loves a good mystery.

Some people love the view of the landscape from the top of a mountain after a hike. That view is limited to how high you are. If you want a bird’s eye view, you are going to have to get a lot higher. One way to do that is to take a helicopter tour. You and your date will see beautiful scenery, skylines, important landmarks, and maybe a hidden gem or two. Monumental Helicopters is one of the best tours in the area, with custom tours and tour packages of Baltimore and Annapolis. Take a look at the city in a way you never have.
At any given time there is at least one production being performed in the DC metro area. From opera and musicals to Shakespeare and world premieres, you are certain to find something to see live. With Arena Stage, Woolly Mammoth, Ford’s Theater, Folger Theater and Theater J, there are plenty of theaters to choose from. These local theaters, big and small, are putting on great work by world renowned artist and local favorites. Try a new theater or a new genre and branch out for your next date night.

Not everyone can go to a club and dance like they’ve been taking classes for years. Whether you are a natural or need a bit of instruction, taking dance classes can be a fun date night activity. The Jam Cellar is where you’ll want to go to take Lindy Hop and Swing dance lessons. Their weekly dance parties are famous, with dancers showing off their moves and others just learning the basics. On your next date night, start off by joining in the free introductory lesson. Maybe you’ll find your new hobby to do as a couple.

There are a few bars in town that have a games theme; board games, arcade games, etc. Thomas Foolery takes it to another level with toys, candy and a set of rules that read like a scavenger hunt. Guests can earn discounts and prizes by doing things like performing “30 seconds of the Single Ladies dance,” reciting “the oath of the Nights Watch,” and ordering drinks in an angry voice. Your inner goofballs will have a great night.
