WASHINGTON — Bryce Harper’s body and mind were at Nationals Park on Thursday night, but his heart was in Las Vegas, a city where he spent his youth and a place that is still recovering from the domestic terrorist attack from two weeks ago.

When he stepped to the plate, he had a message that was captured by MLB cameras:

Harper didn’t wait to show his committed support for Vegas; indeed, this is the latest expression of support he has sent back to his hometown.

In the days following the attack, he sported a pre-game hoodie with the words #VegasStrong emblazoned across the front.

He also wore these cleats earlier in the NLDS:

The morning after the attack, he shared these thoughts, calling the attacks “surreal.”

“The pride of Vegas runs deep when you are born and raised in such a great town,” he wrote on Twitter. “I can’t fathom the horrific event that has taken place!

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families that have been affected by this and to all the people that have lost their lives way too soon! Las Vegas I love you and stand with you.”
