After earning over $160 million in his 12-year NBA career — including eight seasons with the Washington Wizards — Gilbert Arenas is reportedly already having financial difficulties, according to TMZ.
Arenas signed a six-year, $111 million contract with the Wizards in 2008 that has been paid out over the last eight years. The problem for Arenas is that the last payment on that deal comes at the end of this month on October 31st, which will reportedly leave the former NBA star in serious financial trouble.
Arenas told TMZ that he’ll likely have to remove his kids from their private school that costs approximately $91,600 per year.
If you’re wondering how in the world Arenas has managed to spend that much money in such a short time frame, well, here’s a story from Business Insider detailing 16 — yes, 16 — ways that Arenas has gone about spending his money.
The most ridiculous? Probably $5,000 a month to feed his pet sharks plus $1,500 more to have somebody take care of them.
Arenas, 34, hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2011-12 season when he played 17 games with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for a championship for any of his other three teams.
