WASHINGTON — Capitals defenseman Tom Wilson has been fined the maximum allowable amount for kneeing Penguins forward Conor Sheary.

The $2,403.67 fine was issued by NHL Player Safety as a result of a knee-on-knee hit Wilson delivered on Sheary during the third period of Game 1 of Washington and Pittsburgh’s second round playoff series on Thursday.

Sheary tripped over Wilson’s leg, also causing Penguins teammate Brian Dumoulin to fall in a subsequent collision, although no one involved appeared to be hurt. No penalty was called on the play.

Wilson has never been suspended in his career.
