LANHAM, Md. — Prince George’s County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor has released a strongly worded video message following an altercation between career and volunteer firefighters during a house fire in Lanham last week.

In an apparent turf war, the firefighters had a “physical and verbal confrontation” at the fire on 75th Avenue.

“These actions and behavior are absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I will not tolerate violence in the workplace in any way shape or form,” Bashoor says in a video directed toward the entire department.

NBC4 first reported two women career firefighters said they were assaulted by two men volunteer firefighters who arrived after them. The men reportedly wanted to take charge of the scene.

Bashoor has issued new protocol guidelines after the incident and says first arriving unit officers will no longer have the option to pass command.
