Washington, DC (CBS DC)– On Monday, Donald Trump spoke about his plan to not allow Muslims into the U.S.

Hillary Clinton’s vice chair Huma Abedin is speaking out about those comments. According to PEOPLE magazine, Abed said in an email, “I’m a proud Muslim – but you don’t have to share my faith to share my disgust. Trump wants to literally write racism into our law books.”

She believes Trump’s plans of prohibiting Muslims from the United States is based on controversial research that “there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.” The poll that Trump was referencing from the Center for Security Policy claimed that there are 25 percent of Muslims living in America who believe that violence against Americans is justified as “part of the global jihad.”

Abedin also said, “His Islamophobia doesn’t reflect our nation’s values – it goes far enough to damage out country’s reputation and could even threaten our national security. Unfortunately, Trump is leaning into the kind of fear of progress that very well could help him win the nomination. We have to be ready to stop him.”
