BETTENDORF, Iowa (CBSDC) — Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, says Republicans waging a “war on women” is just “made up nonsense.”

Speaking before supporters during a campaign event in Bettendorf, Iowa, the Republican presidential candidate suggested that Hillary Clinton and other Democrats are trying to scare voters with “the condom police,” CBS News reports.

“I’m going to make up a completely made up threat and try to scare a bunch of folks that are not paying a lot of attention that someone is going to steal their birth control,” Cruz said, mocking the Democratic presidential candidate. “What nonsense.”

Cruz joked that “we don’t have a rubber shortage in America.”

“When I was in college, we had a machine in the bathroom, you put 50 cents and voila,” he said, according to CBS News.

Cruz also went on the offensive against Planned Parenthood, stating that “it appears Planned Parenthood has committed a pattern of ongoing felonies,” referencing the undercover videos showing officials talking about the procurement of fetal body parts.

The latest CBS News Battleground Tracker Poll shows 21 percent of likely Republican caucus voters in Iowa support Cruz. Donald Trump leads the pack at 30 percent.
