WASHINGTON — A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old from Lothian have been charged with kidnapping after police say they abducted a 9-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister.
Investigators say the suspects took the siblings from a playground in Boones Mobile Park, carried them into a barn on an adjacent property while brandishing a knife, then tied them up with ropes and threatened to burn them.
When the suspects heard some kids from the neighborhood looking for the 8- and 9-year-old, they fled, according to police.
The group of kids, along with one adult, found the siblings in the barn, freed them from the rope and waited for police.
Police say the victims and witnesses identified the suspects, who were quickly arrested at their home.
The Department of Juvenile Services was contacted and both suspects were placed in a juvenile detention facility. They are each charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, arson, assault, reckless endangerment, burglary and trespassing.
