POTOMAC, Md. — President Barack Obama is encouraging supporters to get as engaged and involved in political elections as they were seven years ago in electing him to the White House.

Obama spoke to about 350 donors at a suburban Maryland fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee just one day after Democrats lost the gubernatorial race in Kentucky and failed to make gains in the Virginia Senate.

Obama says he believes most Americans agree with Democratic priorities such as raising the minimum wage and increasing investments in education and job training.

He says Democrats have the right agenda to move America forward but they’ve got to get out and sell it. He did not reference Tueday’s elections directly and instead spoke about the need for Democrats to vote in next year’s general election.
