WASHINGTON — Thousands came out to D.C. for the 40th Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday.

Trevor Lafontaine of Cornwall, New York took first place, finishing in just two hours and 24 minutes.

Lafontaine told WNEW’s Kris Ankarlo it is his first ever marathon.

“I went out pretty slow, pretty conservative. I’ve never run this course. It’s my first marathon, so I wasn’t sure what to expect,” Lafontaine said. “I’m pretty shocked. I did not come in expecting to win.”

Jenny Mendez Suanca of Costa Rica placed first in the women’s race. She timed 2:45:55.

“It was very cold at first. It took me a little bit to get there, but after a while I was good,” Suanca said.
