WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – When Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, compared China’s paid maternity leave policies to those of the United States, actor James Woods called the Democratic presidential candidate an “utter moron.”

Sanders tweeted:

Under Chinese law, women are granted at least 14 weeks of paid maternity leave. They can take more if there are complications with the pregnancy or if they give birth to more than one child. But China still enforces its controversial “one-child” law.

Actor and conservative commenter James Woods answered back with a tweet of his own.

Woods wasn’t the only one angered by Sanders’ statement.

But some decided that Woods had overreacted, especially since both Woods and Sanders seem to agree that China’s human rights record is terrible.

Sanders has not directly responded to Woods.
