OXON HILL, Md. — Prince George’s County Fire Department officials say X-rays taken of a suspicious package found on the pedestrian walkway of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge are inconclusive, and the bridge remained closed as rush hour approached.
Fire department spokesman Mark Brady said on Periscope Friday afternoon that bomb squad technicians would conduct a hand search of the package.
A shipping label on the package provided information about where the package was headed, Brady says. Authorities contacted the company, which says it was expecting the package.
The department received a call about the package on the span just before noon Friday. Authorities closed the inner loop of the beltway at the exit for Interstate 295.
The bridge crosses the Potomac River between Alexandria, Virginia, and Oxon Hill, Maryland.
