WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday that he feels “much better being armed.”
The GOP frontrunner said he got his concealed weapons permit “years ago” and he only “sometimes” carries a gun.
“I like to have myself protected,” Trump stated.
The billionaire did not say, however, if all Americas should get a permit.
“That’s up to them,” he told “Face the Nation.” “But I will tell you, I feel much better being armed.”
Trump weighed in on the deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, earlier this month, where a gunman took the lives of nine people before killing himself. He stated that the situation might have been different if teachers were armed and trained.
“Assuming they knew how to use the weapon, which hopefully they would, you would’ve been a lot better when this maniac walked into class, starting to shoot people,” he said.
Trump added that “the result would’ve been better” if someone else had been carrying a gun.
A CBS News poll done in August following the deadly shooting at a South Carolina church found that 52 percent of Americans want more strict gun laws, compared to 32 percent who want them kept as they are, and 13 percent saying they would want less strict gun laws.
