ARLINGTON, Va. — Police have arrested a 19-year-old and charged him in two separate sexual assaults.
Arlington Police said they arrested Melvin Perez Bonilla of Arlington on Wednesday morning, and charged him with attempted abduction with intent to defile.
Police are awaiting DNA results to confirm his involvement in a third attack. They say Perez Bonilla has confessed to multiple sexual assault attempts.
Arlington has suffered a rash of random sexual assaults in recent months. Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck says authorities believe Perez Bonilla is responsible for assaults in the Clarendon area, but do not believe he committed attacks in other parts of the county that remain unsolved.
The three attacks in which police suspect Perez Bonilla occurred from July through September and involved women in their 20s who were walking alone.
