WASHINGTON — A teenager was shot on a bike path in Waldorf after police say two suspects stopped him and demanded his BMX bike.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting occurred on a dirt path around 3 p.m. Tuesday near Saint Paul’s and Allward Drive. Police say a 17-year-old boy was flown to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say then teen was on the path when he was approached by two suspects who demanded his silver and green BMX bike. One of the suspects then pulled out a gun and shot the teen in his upper leg.

The suspects then fled with the teen’s bike.

Police say the teen walked back to the roadway and flagged down the driver of an empty school bus who stopped, rendered aid and called 9-1-1.

The two suspects are being described as black males, one possibly with a red baseball cap.

Eva Turner Elementary School was in shelter-in-place while police investigated.
