WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Muslim advocacy groups are issuing warnings over armed anti-Islam protests planned for October.

The Council for Islamic-American Relations (CAIR) issued a warning Sunday to mosques around the country to take additional safety measures for the rallies planned for Oct. 10, according to CBS News.

CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper told CBS News that the talk surrounding the rallies was unusually concerning.

“At first we didn’t want to take it public but at some level you have to warn the community about these potentially violent hate rallies,” Hooper said.

CAIR says a Facebook page called “Global Rally for Humanity” is planning an estimated 20 separate rallies nationwide, with many calling for protesters to come armed where permitted.

The group reportedly has a slogan saying “The World is Saying No To Islam” in addition to mentions of “3%ers and Oathkeepers” on a flier that was circulated.

It’s possible that some of the planned rallies may not happen, but Hooper cautions that Muslims and mosque communities should remain vigilant and work with law enforcement to keep the peace.

There are reports of at least one rally planned for Phoenix, headed by a former Marine named Jon Ritzheimer who previously planned an anti-Islam rally in May.
