WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Forty-one percent of Americans say that if a wall is built along the border with Mexico, one should also be built at the Canadian border.

That’s about the same percentage who favor a wall along the southern border, according to the latest Bloomberg Politics poll.

While many Americans say they want to keep illegal immigrants out, an overwhelming majority expressed positive feelings for immigrants already in the United States.

Eighty percent agreed that the economy has thrived historically because of new arrivals.

Seventy percent agree with Pope Francis’ call for the world’s richest nations to be more welcoming of immigrants.

The Bloomberg Politics Poll was  based on interviews with 1,001 U.S. adults ages 18 or older conducted September 18-21. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
