WASHINGTON — Gay Vietzke, deputy regional director for the National Park Service’s Northeast Region, has been named superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks.

Vietzke will manage monuments and memorials that receive more than 25 million visitors a year.

She has 23 years of experience in public-private partnerships and historic preservation. Vietzk previously been superintendent of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine and Hampton National Historic Site in Maryland.

Vietzke begins her assignment later this month.
