WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — In poll numbers that aren’t shocking to anyone, Hispanics are not fans of Donald Trump.
A new Gallup poll finds that 65 percent of Hispanics view the Republican presidential candidate unfavorably, while only 14 percent say they have a favorable view of the billionaire.
However, Hispanics are the most familiar with Trump among the GOP presidential field. The poll reveals that 79 percent of Hispanics are familiar with Trump, while 57 percent are familiar with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
Bush fares best among Hispanics, as 34 percent say they view him favorably, compared to 23 percent who don’t.
Trump has inflamed Latinos by describing Mexican immigrants as “criminals” and “rapists” and saying he would build a wall between the United States and Mexico to crack down on illegal immigration. He recently said he would deport the millions of people already in the United States illegally, sort them into groups of “good ones” and “bad ones” and then allow those deemed good to re-enter the country.
