WASHINGTON (CBSDC)– He may be fresh into retirement, but more than a 150,000 people are calling on former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart to moderate a 2016 presidential debate.

The Change.org petition was launched about two weeks ago calling on the Commission on Presidential Debates to consider Stewart as a moderator during a future contest. The petition had 160,000 supporters as of Friday, just 40,000 short of meeting the organization’s goal of 200,000.

“Over the last 16 years, Jon Stewart has played an influential and iconic role in covering U.S. politics and media. We believe he should continue that tradition as a moderator at one of the 2016 Presidential Debates,” part of the petition reads.

Those advocating for Stewart to land the spot as moderator argue he’s “more than qualified” having interviewed several government officials including 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the U.S. Senate, seven members of the U.S. House of Representatives, and numerous other political leaders from around the globe.

The Commission on Presidential Debates has yet to respond to a request for comment to Time.
