WASHINGTON — The District is the second most liberal city in America, with Baltimore coming close behind as the tenth most liberal, according to The Economist.
The Economist pulled data from an MIT study on how city governments reflect their constituents’ politics to produce a ranking of cities with populations of over 250,000.
“Would people expect Washington, DC, to come second, ahead of Seattle (where it is legal to smoke pot) or the Democratic stronghold of Boston?” the site reads. “The study finds that, contrary to the academic literature, cities are largely responsive to residents’ political views.”
San Francisco, California ranked as the most liberal city in the U.S., while Mesa, Arizona came in as the most conservative city.
