WASHINGTON — Four women have been assaulted recently in Arlington County in separate, but similar incidents involving an attacker who attempted to rape them.
The most recent assault happened Saturday when a 29-year-old woman was attacked from behind while walking home in the 1900 block of North Highland Street. The suspect placed a pillowcase over the woman’s face and threw her to the ground. He fled, however, when she kicked him and screamed.
All four women fought off their attacker and most of the women are in their mid-to-late twenties.
The string of attacks began with an incident in the early morning hours of July 25 at the 1900 block of 15th Street North. A suspect, pictured in the sketch below, attempted to grab a 25-year-old woman by her pants before she fought him off and he fled on foot.
About a week later, another woman of an unknown age was running in Glencarlyn Park around 8:45 p.m. when she was attacked from behind and forced to the ground. The suspect fled when she screamed out for help.
Sketch of suspect in second attack:
Another woman was attacked from behind the next night, Aug. 1, around 11:30 p.m. while she was walking home in the 4300 block of N. Pershing Drive. She bit the suspect, causing him to run from the scene.
While some details of each suspect description differ, all four women described their attacker as a Hispanic male.
Arlington County Police say they are not certain the attacks are connected, but are investigating.
