WASHINGTON — We all have our opinions and allegiances about where we live, but a new report is giving Marylanders a breakdown of the worst places to live in the state they call home “according to science.”

RoadSnacks.net analyzed 191 of the state’s cities using economic figures, crime rates and things to do in each town.

Topping the list as the worst place to live in Maryland is Elkton.

“It wasn’t even close. When you’re looking at the worst places you could live in Maryland, Elkton takes the cake,” the report says. “Here in Elkton, crime is the 6th highest in the state, and 1 out of 16 residents was robbed here according to the latest FBI numbers, which came out in 2013.”

RoadSnacks also cited Elkton’s low public school budget and low median income.

Here’s the top 10 list of worst places:

1. Elkton
2. Salisbury
3. Cumberland
4. Hagerstown
5. Cambridge
6. Lansdowne
7. Ocean City
8. Robinwood
9. Cockeysville
10. Middle River

Baltimore came in as the 37th worst place.

“Of course, you’ll most likely disagree if you see your town atop this list. But nonetheless, according to science, these cities are the worst places you could possibly live if you make Maryland your home. These places need a big hug right about now,”
RoadSnacks says.

And what about the best places?

The majority of the top five list consists of Montgomery County towns.

1. Four Corners
2. North Potomac
3. Layhill
4. South Kensington
5. Ilchester
