ARLINGTON, Va. — Two handguns have been uncovered in the last two days by screeners at Reagan National Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration says officers discovered a loaded .45 caliber firearm Wednesday after running a carry-on bag through an X-ray machine. On Thursday morning, officers found an unloaded .32 caliber handgun in a similar fashion.

The two men who possessed the bags are now facing weapons charges. Authorities do not believe the incidents are related.

TSA screeners have detected six guns at Reagan Airport checkpoints so far this year.

The TSA says guns are never allowed in carry-on bags. Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packaged and declared.
