(CBS DC) – The world will soon gain insight into the first date of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama through the new film “Southside With Me”.

It was a summer afternoon in 1989 when Barack and Michelle went on their first date to see Spike Lee’s film, “Do The Right Thing.” They then shared tender moments at the Art Institute of Chicago and had their first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Yesterday the first photos of actors Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter, who will be playing the couple, surfaced online.

During a campaign trail in 2012 the couple talked about their first date with Michelle saying, “He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker, and it ended up being a pretty good movie — really great!”

Later President Obama thanked Lee for helping him with his first date choices. “Southside With Me,” is written and directed by Richard Tanne and is currently in production.
