UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A man was shot and killed after attempting to break into a home inside a gated community in Upper Marlboro early Monday morning, police say.

The incident happened in the 6100 block of Blue Sage Lane.

A resident called 911 and said someone was breaking into the home.

Police say around 2:40 a.m., the resident fatally shot the trespasser. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The man has been identified as 30-year-old Craig Ivan Corbin, Jr. of Baltimore.

The preliminary investigation reveals the man had been shot while trying to climb into a window. The resident and the man had a prior romantic relationship.

Police say investigators are working closely with the State’s Attorney Office, which will ultimately make a determination whether charges are filed in this case.
