WASHINGTON — According to a report from Yahoo! NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, former Washington Wizards small forward Paul Pierce has signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers:

The Clippers’ interest was rumored ahead of him opting out of the second year of his contract with the Wizards on Saturday. Even though Washington expected him to test the market, the team was expected to make a strong push to retain him.

It is yet unclear what the team would have offered him to return, but was reportedly “increasingly optimistic” that the team would retain his services, as recently as Tuesday.

The signing reunites Pierce with head coach Doc Rivers, who was coached Pierce for 10 years in Boston.

The pair won an NBA Championship with Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen in 2008, and were traded in separate deals within three days of one another in June, 2013.
