WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., made an off-handed joke about Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., being a bachelor.
The Huffington Post reports Kirk was caught on a live microphone during a Senate Appropriations Committee markup saying the Republican presidential candidate is a “bro with no ho.”
“I’ve been joking with Lindsey,” Kirk says. “Did you see that? He’s going to have a rotating first lady. He’s a bro with no ho.”
Kirk’s comment comes after Graham joked to Daily Mail Online about who would be his first lady if he happens to become president.
“Well, I’ve got a sister, she could play that role if necessary,” Graham said.
He then quipped, “I’ve got a lot of friends. We’ll have a rotating first lady.”
The Daily Mail reports that Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone lives in South Carolina with her husband and two daughters.
Graham announced he was running for president on June 1 in his hometown of Central, then spent most of the next week in New Hampshire and Iowa, which are the first two voting states in the primaries and caucuses.
South Carolina holds the first-in-the-South presidential primary.
Graham is considered a long shot to clinch the GOP presidential nomination.
Kirk’s office told The Huffington Post that the senator was “joking around with his colleagues.”
