WASHINGTON — A Hagerstown man shot his ex-girlfriend after she left a pickup truck during an argument and shot her again as she lay on the ground, according to Montgomery County Police.
The 24-year-old woman’s ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Donald Wayne Bricker, Jr., has been charged with first-degree murder.
Bricker was arrested Monday night was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during a single-vehicle crash, according to police.
On Thursday, police announced Bricker was released from the hospital and appeared before a court comissioner.
He is currently being held without bond and will have a bond review on Friday afternoon in Rockville.
Police responded to the scene near Target in Germantown, located at 20908 North Frederick Road, shortly after multiple 911 calls came in around 7:30 p.m.
They located the victim, who was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
She has been identified as Mariam Folashade Adebayo.
Multiple witnesses at the scene observed an altercation in a vehicle between Adebayo and Bricker. Witnesses told police that at some point during the altercation, Adebayo got out of the vehicle to get away from Bricker.
Bricker then got out of the vehicle holding a handgun. Police say Bricker fired the gun in the direction of Adebayo and she fell to the ground.
Police say Bricker was then observed walking up to Adebayo and shooting her again. Bricker then fled from the scene in a white, older model, Ford Ranger pickup truck.
After the description was broadcast via scanner, an officer located the suspect vehicle attempted to stop the vehicle. A pursuit began after the driver, later identified as Bricker, would not stop, police say.
At around 8:12 p.m., in the area of the 15800 block of Darnestown Road, the suspect was involved in a single-vehicle collision and officers obtained and arrested him. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries that he sustained in the crash. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Interviews with the Adebayo’s family and friends revealed that Adebayo and Bricker had been dating for approximately six months and had recently ended the relationship.
