WALDORF, Md. (WNEW/AP) — A grandmother is accused of shooting and killing a man in the parking lot of a Waldorf McDonald’s due to an ongoing child custody dispute and a second person, an-off duty Prince George’s County police officer, has also been charged with murder, police announced Tuesday.
Authorities say 51-year-old Caroline Conway shot 25-year-old Robert Mange after he and his 24-year-old wife came to the restaurant on the 11000 block of Mall Circle to pick up two young children who had been staying with Conway.
The off-duty officer has been identified as Officer Richard Conway. He has been employed by the Prince George’s County Police Department for three years and is currently assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. He is suspended without pay.
Charles County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Stephen Slavas says Caroline Conway got into Mange’s car and shot him, then shot the female victim in the back after she tried to flee the vehicle.
Officials say both victims were taken to the hospital and Mange died Wednesday night. The woman is expected to survive.
Investigators believe the motive stemmed from an ongoing custody dispute, but it’s not clear who has custody of the children.
