WASHINGTON — Former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley, a prospective 2016 U.S. presidential candidate, was name dropped during Saturday Night Live’s Hillary Clinton cold open.
The skit, featuring Kate McKinnon as Clinton, centers around the former first lady and secretary of state preparing a video announcement of her second run for president on her cell phone.
After an aid, played by Vanessa Bayer, gives counsel that “the new Hillary is humble and gracious,” McKinnon leads into the following sarcastic monologue:
“I know this election season won’t be easy. I’m sure I will face some stiff competition from my fellow Democrats. People like Martin O’Malley, who could really give me a run for my money. *laughter* I’m sorry I broke, it’s too funny. *more laughter* Martin O’Malley instead of me… he sounds like a Simpsons character!”
O’Malley responded to the SNL ribbing a few hours later via his Twitter account.
