WASHINGTON (WNEW) – Edward Norton is best known for his roles in “Fight Club”, “The Incredible Hulk” and “The Illusionist”, but the Maryland native is now the voice of a new ad calling on residents of his home state not to support fracking.

“A dangerous form of gas drilling called fracking threatens our state’s environmental health,” Norton says in a radio ad for the Don’t Frack Maryland campaign.

The ad featuring the actor, who grew up in Columbia is running Tuesday. He urges listeners not to let Gov. Larry Hogan ignore health and environmental risks caused by the drilling method.

Hydraulic fracturing is a natural gas drilling method in which water, chemicals and sand are pumped underground, which then releases gas.

Hogan says he’ll take a hard look at any legislation that passes.

One measure before Maryland lawmakers puts more responsibility on companies for damages to people and property. Another would place a 2-year moratorium on fracking.

The moratorium passed in the Senate last night according to a Facebook post from The Food & Water Watch:

“Actor Edward Norton doesn’t want his home state to be fracked! Norton, who grew up in Maryland, recorded a radio ad for the Don’t Frack Maryland campaign that aired today in support of a fracking moratorium, which passed in the Maryland Senate last night! Thanks Edward!”
