WASHINGTON (WNEW) — Almost three years after it appeared on the Spike reality show “Bar Rescue,” Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring will be closing its porthole for good next month.
The owners of the pirate-themed restaurant and bar, which serves up your standard surf, turf, cocktails, beer and wine, were admittedly plagued by issues due to their inexperience even before their establishment appeared on the show.
But Tracy and Juciano Rebelo are still placing most of the blame for the bar’s demise on “Bar Rescue,” which totally scrubbed the pirate theme and transformed the tavern into “Corporate Bar and Grill” on an episode entitled “Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Dumb.”
The revamped version of the bar was short-lived — the Rebelos reinstated the old theme, decor and menu not long after filming — but the whole saga apparently left its mark on the business.
“Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Piratz Tavern will open it’s doors for the last time on Saturday April 4th,” the Rebelos wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page Thursday.
“Unfortunately the negative publicity, constant prank calls, vandalism and bogus reviews generated by our unfortunate participation on Bar Rescue have taken their toll.”
