LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Prince George’s County Police say they have arrested and charged a Bladensburg man with sexual assault Friday.

He is identified as 48-year-old James William Diggs.

On Wednesday around 8:15 pm, a woman was walking in the 3800 block of 38th Avenue in Cottage City when the suspect grabbed her from behind, put a knife to her throat and attacked her in a secluded area off the street.

On Thursday, police were able to identify Diggs as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. By Friday afternoon, police captured Diggs in Waldorf, where they say he was arrested without incident.

Charges are pending for a Feb. 25 sexual assault of a woman in the 4100 block of 54th Street in Bladensburg.

Diggs is also a person of interest in two additional sexual assaults that occurred within a two-mile radius:

– September 8, 2014 at 6:45 pm in the 5100 block of Quincy Street, Bladensburg
– October 20, 2014 at 8:45 pm in the 5800 block of Annapolis Road, Cheverly
