LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake won’t need to get her pipes ready for her singing debut in “Chicago,” but she will take the stage.
Rawlings-Blake will appear onstage in “razzle dazzle” cameo roles in the popular musical “Chicago” when it comes to Charm City next week, becoming the first mayor to do so.
“I am honored to be the first mayor to appear in Chicago—one of the most historic shows in Broadway history—and I want to reassure the cast and crew that I am already hard at work rehearsing my lines,” Rawlings-Blake said in a statement Thursday.
“I always love to show off the ‘razzle dazzle’ of Baltimore’s flourishing cultural scene, from expanding our Arts & Entertainment Districts, to growing Baltimore’s downtown theater corridor… and ‘all that jazz.’ I cannot wait to make my big debut in an amazing show like Chicago.”
The Baltimore Sun reports the mayor is scheduled to be the announcer at the top of the show and as a reporter in Act 2, during one performance, on March 4 at 8 p.m. at the Hippodrome Theatre.
