NORFOLK, Va. — The American victim in an attack in Libya that left five foreigners dead was a former Marine who performed security work for various companies after leaving the military.
David Berry was killed Tuesday when a gunman stormed a luxury hotel in the Libyan capital.
He was last employed as a contractor by Crucible LLC of Fredericksburg. His LinkedIn profile says he had been working in Libya since July as a security manager.
Berry served in the Marines from 2000 to 2012 and completed multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was last assigned to a special operations support detachment in Camp Pendleton, California.
A fundraising page set up to benefit Berry’s wife and children says he always put others before himself and was loyal to those around him.
