RICHMOND, Va. — The Transportation Security Administration is reporting an increase in the number of firearms that were discovered by TSA officers at checkpoints at Virginia airports.
In 2014, the TSA says 45 firearms were detected at nine Virginia airports, including two Washington-area airports. In 2013, 29 weapons were detected.
Officers at Ronald Reagan Washington National found 14 firearms last year, up from six detected in 2013.
Richmond International Airport saw seven firearms, up from two the previous year.
At Norfolk International Airport, seven firearms were found last year and in 2013.
