LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Governor Martin O’Malley and his family are living in the second biggest governor’s mansion in the country, according to the real estate blog Movoto.

Movoto looked at governors’ mansions in 44 states (since not all states have governor’s mansions) and ranked the top ten biggest.

The Maryland Governor’s Mansion, located on State Circle in the city’s capital of Annapolis, is estimated to be valued at $7 million and is about 38,000 square feet.

Built in the Georgian style, this home has been the residence of Maryland’s governors since 1870. Governor O’Malley and his family actually live in this historic home, even though most before him did not.

Famous visitors have included Mark Twain, Queen Elizabeth and Sugar Ray Leonard. In 1990, a $169,000 (bought with public funds) Victorian fountain was installed in the mansion’s gardens.

The Maryland Governor’s Mansion was beat out by the Illinois Executive Mansion, estimated at $5.4 million but larger at 50,000 square feet.
