LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — One person was killed after a small plane crashed in Fauquier County on Sunday.

Virginia State Police say a single-engine, fixed wing airplane crashed around 12:30 p.m. The plane crashed near the 10000 block of Shenandoah Path in the community of Catlett.

Local residents provided witness accounts and four-wheel drive vehicles, helping emergency responders locate and access the remote crash site quickly, according to officials.

State police, Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office and the Catlett’s Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad responded to the scene. The FAA is on scene and the NTSB has been notified.

Officials say one person was killed in the crash. Additional information was not immediately known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Information will be updated as details become available.
