ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — Maryland Republicans are gathering for a convention after a rejuvenating election in the state.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is scheduled to speak at a state GOP convention in Ellicott City on Saturday.
Gov.-elect Larry Hogan and U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, Maryland’s lone Republican congressman, also are scheduled to speak.
Republicans gained seven seats in the Maryland House of Delegates, increasing their numbers from 43 to 50. While Democrats still control the Legislature in Maryland, Republicans will hold more seats in the House than ever. Republicans also gained two seats in the state Senate.
The Republican victories happened in a state where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1.
