ROCKVILLE, Md. (WNEW) — Students at Thomas S. Wootten High School are hoping to drum up YouTube clicks they say are desperately needed to get new band equipment.

Jon Glaser, a senior at Wootten, is a symbol captain of the drum line and says all of their equipment is more than 20 years old.

Glaser says holes in drum heads and breaking harnesses make it hard to practice, let alone compete in marching competitions.

But a national video competition called “My Pit’s The Pits” could change everything if the drum line gets enough YouTube clicks.

“We have a great program at Wootten we put a lot of time,” Glaser says. “This grant is really going to make it so we can be doing what we love.”

The drum line would receive $3,300 if it wins the video contest.

Glaser says there’s at least 25 other schools they are up against.

“I think we definitely have the most dedicated individuals that put the most effort into it,” Glaser says.
