LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Police say a teacher at Leonardtown High School was arrested after receiving information about possible drug activity by a teacher.

The St. Mary’s County teacher, 46-year-old Charles Russell Elburn Jr., of Lexington Park, was using controlled dangerous substances and distributing Xanax, according to police.

Police say they later discovered that Elburn told officers his prescription Xanax had been stolen from his home. During the investigation, police found evidence that confirmed the Xanax pills were distributed and not stolen.

Elburn was arrested and charged with filing a false police report, with additional charges pending.
