WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Today marks the end of a five-year run for the Lavar and Dukes Show on 106.7 The Fan, as Mr. Arrington signs off of his radio show for the final time, to depart for the NFL Network in Los Angeles in a full-time capacity.

Arrington has been a permanent fixture on The Fan airwaves since the inception of its sports format, in July 2009, when he brought his past accomplishments — six seasons with the Washington Redskins, a time in which he was perhaps the most-beloved member of the team since John Riggins — personality, which would also prove beloved, and huge name in this town to quickly cultivate a massive following for the show.

Notably, while Arrington’s role will change beginning Monday, he will maintain a prominent presence on the 106.7 The Fan airwaves.

Although Arrington has known he’d be leaving for some time, the gravity of the situation struck him abruptly, as soon as he cracked the mic at the top of the show, Friday afternoon.

Arrington — the toughest, baddest (and only) former NFL linebacker to walk these halls, daily — overcome by the moment, shed a tear.

Listen to the announcement in the audio clip below.

(It’s 2:26 p.m. at the time of this writing, meaning there’s still plenty of time to listen to Arrington’s final broadcast online).
