WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – A major shakeup is underway at Redskins Park, involving the specific jersey numbers to be worn by DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Clark, Aldrick Robinson, Chris Thompson and Chase Minnifield in 2014.
Last night, we were active in bringing you the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding the matter, which included a few smoke screens by Jackson — who signed with the Redskins Wednesday morning — and a scare that Robert Griffin III would be sacrificing No. 10, prompting fans to need new Griffin jerseys.
That wasn’t the case, and it appears Jackson has settled on No. 11., now available on the Redskins team store. Fellow receiver Aldrick Robinson will be switching to the No. 15 jersey.
We’re nothing in this business without our sources.
The latest hat tip goes to Andrew Walker of Redskins.com, who noticed the new merchandise online, and has also broken the news that Kirk Cousins will trade his No. 12 to receiver Andre Roberts, in exchange for a nominal fee of $12,000 to be paid to the quarterback’s foundation.
Cousins will now wear No. 8 (previously worn by Rex Grossman), his number in college.
That leaves the matter of which number Ryan Clark will wear. According to Walker, the safety will split No. 25 with running back Chris Thompson – with Clark wearing red, and Thompson wearing white in practice – until a more concrete solution can be reached.
Chase Minnifield, who had already been splitting a share of No. 25, will now wear No. 38, Walker reports.
Now there’s the issue of which number new Redskins acquisition Colt McCoy will wear.
News is a service, and we’ll keep you abreast with the latest as this story develops.
