LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – No it’s not an early April Fools joke: Sleet, snow and even hail hit areas throughout the region Sunday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Baltimore, Montgomery and Carroll counties until midnight. A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Montgomery County through 8 a.m. Monday.

Reports of the wintry mix came in Sunday afternoon throughout areas north and west of Washington, along with northern Virginia, causing slick spots on roads and pavement.

Hail was also reported in Montgomery County and some areas of northern Virginia Sunday afternoon.

“Temperatures are above freezing, but still, with heavy precipitation it could quickly change to snow and cause some slush out there,” Meteorologist Dave Samuels said.

A Flood Warning has expired for Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties. A snow emergency declared in Frederick County, Md. for hazardous weather conditions was lifted Sunday evening.

The Blossom Kite Festival on the National Mall was canceled because of rainy weather, organizers said Sunday.

The precipitation headed out of the area around 9 p.m. Sunday.

March has already been ridden with snow, with storms bringing several inches of the white stuff to the area and repeatedly closing schools and governments.

Warm weather is forecast to return mid-week, with temperatures creeping into the low 70s Wednesday.

April is just two days away.
