ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — A snow plow driver was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by dump truck in Loudoun County, according to Virginia State Police.

The Virginia Department of Transportation contractor pulled off the road and was standing by the salt spreader on the back of his truck when he was struck by another truck at the intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Chesterton Street in Ashburn shortly before 6 a.m.

The man was taken to Loudoun Hospital Center and later died, according to police.

The driver of the second truck was not injured.

The Ashburn area received more than 12 inches of snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

The cause of accident remains under investigation.
