LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — McKeldin Mall at the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Virginia’s Lawn have been named on Business Insider’s list of the most “beautiful and iconic” college quads in the country.

“Although the college quad first became associated with academia on the campuses of Oxford and Cambridge, most of America’s great universities are now built around a similar model of surrounding a central space with residence halls and classrooms,” article author Peter Jacobs writes.

The “Lawn” is distinguished, of course, by the fact that it was designed by the university’s founder, Thomas Jefferson. Meanwhile, McKeldin Mall’s defining characteristic is the bronze statue of the school mascot, a terrapin, that overlooks it.

UVA and UMD’s quads were joined on the list by:
