COLLEGE PARK, Md. (CBSDC) — A man was killed when the porta-potty he was in became engulfed in flames Tuesday morning in College Park.

A passing Maryland State Trooper spotted the fire in the Sunnyside Neighborhood Park, located the 10100 block of Rhode Island Avenue, at about 7 a.m. and was able extinguish the flames using a an extinguisher in his cruiser.

The trooper pulled the man, who was in his 20s, from the burning porta-potty. He was flown to a local burn unit with life-threatening injuries, according to Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesperson Mark Brady. The man, who hasn’t been identified, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities say it is possible the incident was a suicide attempt.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the fire department and Maryland National Park and Planning Commission Police Department.
