WASHINGTON — Dancers are taking over the Kennedy Center this weekend for National Dance Day, offering performances and lessons throughout the day.

Joshua Allen, the 2008 winner of TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” is teaching two dance routines on Saturday. In 2010, District of Columbia Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a resolution in Congress to create National Dance Day.

The Hip-Hop group Culture Shock and tap dancing duo the Manzari Brothers will perform at the Kennedy Center.

Free events are planned from 1 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, including evening dance performances outdoors on the south plaza by Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.

The Music Center in Los Angeles is hosting a similar National Dance Day event with the Dizzy Feet Foundation on the West Coast.
