SILVER SPRING, Md. (CBSDC) — The Silver Spring Civic Center hosted a forum to protect Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act Monday evening.

The forum was a direct response to plans from pro-gun activists to file a lawsuit against the Firearm Safety Act that passed through the General Assembly in April.

Gun control groups such as Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence, Safe Silver Spring, Montgomery County Young Democrats and a few others sponsored the forum.

“We cannot rest. The gun lobby remains strong and plans to file a lawsuit to undo this great achievement in court” said Dave Kunes, President, Montgomery County Young Democrats in a statement released prior to the event. “And while we have made great progress in Maryland our fight will not be over until other states take steps to prevent gun violence and until Congress passes universal background checks.”

Speakers at the forum included Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Senator Brian Frosh and Delegate Kathleen Dumais.
